Professional Liability: What is it?
Organizations can he held liable for providing advice, referrals, and even distribution of medicine at the direction of a physician. Social workers, counselors and/or miscellaneous professional liability insurance usually addresses these exposures.
Agencies that provide medical care or advice, including those that employ doctors or nurses, need to carry medical malpractice professional liability insurance. Many policies will exclude individual or contract doctors, but will provide coverage to the organization for malpractice suits they are named in.
For this reason, it is important to make sure doctors maintain their own individual malpractice policies.
There are many other forms of professional liability, depending on the needs of the organization. Some typical examples include:
- Management consultant errors and omissions
- Computer consultants errors and omissions
- Lawyers professional liability
- Internet professional liability (web hosting, security)
